Aquarian Cladding Wins Olympic Order

Sept 2011 - Aquarian Cladding Wins Olympic Order.

Aquarian Cladding, the UK's leading supplier of insulating brick cladding systems has won the contract to supply its Gebrik system to the Mayesbrook Park Sports Arena redevelopment in Barking, East London.

Once complete, the Arena will be the largest sports hall in the UK (and the second largest in Europe) and will feature a 5,000m² sports hall, a 1,000m² gymnasium and changing facilities.

Daley Thompson officially launched the redevelopment project in March, the Olympian having trained at the original arena early in his career. Aquarian will be supplying approximately 700m² of Gebrik in the Manganese Black finish (VS70-90). The first Gebrik deliveries will be made to site in October with installation programmed to be complete by November. Gebrik was specified not only for its aesthetic qualities, but also for the speed and certainty that the material brings to the build programme, a crucial consideration given the tight schedule and the essential requirement to complete the programme on time to meet the Olympic deadline!

Designed by LRK Associates for Ebbsfleet Community Sports Centre Limited, the main contractor for the £8.1 million project is Morgan Sindall, with Hathaway Roofing the cladding contractor. During the 2012 Olympics, the arena will be the training venue for the Great Britain handball and wheelchair rugby teams; construction is scheduled to be completed by February 2012.
