March 2010 - Gebrik prevails in testing winter site conditions at Reading University.
Aquarian Cladding Systems, the UK's leading supplier of insulating brick cladding systems, has supplied 7,500m² of its Gebrik Insulating Brick Cladding System over the worst winter months in 20 years for a student accommodation project nearing completion at Reading University. To date, this is the largest single Gebrik project supplied by the company in the UK.
In total, 3,000m² of Gebrik Amsterdam Yellow, 3,800m² of Gebrik Dark Red Sandfaced and 700m² of Gebrik Blue Brindle Smooth have been used to clad three new student halls of residence.
As Reading is home to an internationally renowned centre of excellence for research and teaching in the built environment, it was fitting that the construction of these new student halls have benefitted from modern construction methods and materials - including Gebrik. Designed by Stride Treglown, the external façade of the new halls feature prefabricated radius corners and external returns to suit the full building height.
Aquarian Cladding Systems have worked closely with brick distributor Taylor Maxwell from concept to installation to ensure that, despite the unusually difficult winter weather, contractor Morgan Ashurst and specialist cladding contractor ECL Contracts Ltd are on schedule to complete the brickwork element in May 2010.
